Radiopilipinas Bar Tour 3 Photos

The third leg of the radiopilipinas bar tour continues at this small artistic place in front of miriam college in katipunan called mag.net. Some bands had to cancel due to emergency reasons but the place was not spared from the fun and excitement of the bands who gave their best performance. Here are a few photos:

As usual, I couldn't get a picture of muffin as I was onstage. I hope kuyakurt or anyone else did took a picture of muffin.

Radiopilipinas Bar Tour 2 - BBQ Boy

And so the bar tour continues, this time in the heart of ortigas center. Ten bands performed with great enthusiasm. And the night went on until the early morning.

Radiopilipinas Bar Tour 1 - 9MIle Bar

The Radiopilipinas Bar Tour kicked off with a blast at 9mile bar in kalayaan ave., qc. Bands who's songs are being regularly played on the internet radio performed to a responsive crowd. Spotted among the audience are talent scouts from several record labels as well as producers who enjoyed every song the bands played.

The audience enjoyed the band and the band enjoyed the audience. It was one funfilled evening where samples of songs from radiopilipinas was heared live.




















A live broadcast of the night didnt push through due to technical difficulties. However the staff was able to record the audio of the performances and will be broadcasting it in the days to come. Watch out for it.

Indie Jam Jan24 at Genre Bar Photos

Another night of indie jamming. The night was fun-filled with exciting performs and a jam-packed venue of responsive crowd mostly composed of people from the songwriters community.

There was no free beer unlike that one held earlier, instead there was a free shot of brandy. Sayang wala ang Tabass or else they would have enjoyed the Granma.

Thanks a lot to all the performers and all the audiences. The night was a great success. The bands enjoyed the audience as the audience enjoyed the bands.

It was unfortunate however that we didn't get to broadcast the show live on radiopilipinas internet radio. We had our equipments on the set but for unforeseen reason we failed to get an internet connection. We will try our best to broadcast on the next show on jan 31. To all kababayans outside manila and out of the country, you can enjoy the fun by tuning in on jan31.

Indie Orgy Nights at Genre Bar, Cubao X

Its my comeback in producing shows. Indie Orgy Nights is a collaboration show of radiopilipinas, indiepinoy and songwriters philippines. This was held at Genre Bar which is located at the 2nd floor of Allan's Grill at that new artist haven called Cubao Expo (formerly Marikina Expo) right at the back of what used to be Rustans and beside what used to be COD.

The last time I produced shows was around mid 1990s at mayrics. All those Gimik Asembli series which reached part 15 spanning several years was a huge success for that production outfit I created called Bright Red Music Productions. Kearny Rosete of One Big Family Prods told me the sad news midway of the indie orgy nights that Mayrics is now closed. The owner has called it quits. Although there are efforts from different bands and production outfits to revive the place.

Anyway, Indie Orgy Night was grand. Showcasing great bands and having the place filled up with really great people who knows how to appreciate music. From the original line up, carpe diem was absent. So there were dream kitchen, the bernadettes, hooligans, tabass, geek city riot, blue martian cookies, muffin and where's charlie.

Here are a few pictures of the night. Not really good quality since I was just using my cellphones camera. Sadly I wasn't able to get a picture of muffin onstage for obvious reasons... nasa stage ako. If anyone has a pic just post it here para makumpleto.

The night was supposed to be ended with Joey Pepe Smith, but the show ended early and he came in too late. His band mates were there anyway enjoying the party.

10 years Online

In 1997, I got my very own first personal computer. I recall I bought it in greenhills (viramall). I got my PC with an internal modem as a bonus. And so I attached my modem to my extension phone line.

During that night of december 24, while everyone was busy preparing for noche buena and wrapping all the gifts, I was left alone in my pad tinkering with my new toy. I recall I got my PC with windows 95. I played solitaire, pinball, and all those default games of windows. I was able to borrow floppy disk copies of a few sierra games (police quest, leisure suit larry, kings quest, etc) from my aunt but got tired of it since I have already finished all of them before.

I didnt really know what to do with the modem, so I called up a fellow musician whom I knew had a great computer set up at home. He introduced me to BBSing. BBS is bulletin board system. During those times, the internet was too expensive. There were no prepaid cards yet, and all you can do to get an internet connection was to subscribe to it with monthly bills for a specific hours alloted. I still could not afford that. So BBSing was the option for me. A BBS is a service where the host PC is connected to a modem and awaits data callers who wishes to connect modem to modem. Most of these are free. You have to use hyperterminal (windows default program) in order to make a data call. And so I was given a few numbers to call. Upon connection I was confronted with an ascii designed menu and was asked to register. Once registered I have to be verified in two stages. First was the call back where in you have to hang up your connection and the host will call you to verify autenticity of your number. The second stage was when the sysOp of that BBS will call you by voice to verify your identity. The main idea of BBS was file sharing, messaging via mail packets (similar to forums but you download your subscribed discussion group, reply to them offline and upload your replies), and a few online games such as L.O.R.D. (basically a text based game).

Upon verified, I started browsing on what are the files available for download. I picked up the Philippine BBS list first compiled by Joel Mique. This was a text file of all the BBS in the philippines including details such as the SysOp, telephone number and what time it is ready for data calls. Most of these BBSes are created by hobbyist and so they only alot a few hours (usually at night when the phone is not in use). Popular BBS software used were wildcat, maximus, triBBs and PowerBBS. The most popular BBSes were livewire philippines who used to run 5 nodes (or numbers to call), This was run by eddie salonga and is still running until now. You will notice my name in the list. A few hours of BBSing and I was conviced I have to run my own BBS board. So I set up Kimsnet BBS running on wildcat. At first I decided to serve midi and other music related files. But when users started uploading sexy pictures, Kimsnet BBS became popular. At one point I had 3000 on my userlist. Kimsnet BBS was also an active part of the community of BBSes during eyeballs and other computer gatherings. Even the police had their own BBS and assigned two officers to attend BBS eyeballs. This gave winks and grins to BBSers who are into adult files.

BBSing was the birth of my online thing which eventually became nolits.com - a network portal of web enthusiasts. Nolits.com later gave birth to nolithosting, a web hosting company with quality, affordable and secured service. This explains my humble beginnings going online. Exactly 10 years ago.
